Backlash - Discrimination, Retaliation & Whistleblowers Liability Webinar

Archived Webinar: Backlash - Discrimination, Retaliation
& Whistleblowers Liability Webinar
Originally held: Thursday, October 14, 2010
Presented by Theresa Smith Lloyd and Carolyn M. Jereck
Topic Overview:
Employment-related claims and law suits are the fastest-growing “industry” in Michigan. They are also, at times, the most difficult to recognize and to deal with; often because the complaining employee is still working for the company,
and sees any subsequent actions by their employer,
(no matter how innocuous), to be retaliation.
This seminar reviewed ways employers and human resource professionals can protect their companies against such claims by discussing and analyzing:
- What constitutes discrimination, and what protected classes are recognized under state and federal law
- What constitutes retaliation and whistleblowing
- How you can best utilize your employee applications, employee manual, and employee training to minimize these claims; and, most importantly,
- What steps to take if and when such a claim is made.
