Witt appointed editor of national organization’s Law Journal
Plunkett Cooney insurance coverage attorney Amy L. Witt was recently appointed 2011-2012 Editor of the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section’s (TIPS) Law Journal.
“I am humbled by the appointment,” said Witt, who is an attorney at Plunkett Cooney, one of the Midwest’s oldest and largest law firms. “I look forward to becoming more involved with the ABA and the TIPS committee by keeping members up to date on the current state of the law through the TIPS communications-law journal.”
According to her appointment letter, Witt’s selection as editor is in recognition of her professional abilities and reputation among the organization’s more than 20,000 members. Her term as editor began when the 2011 ABA Annual Meeting, which was held at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, concluded on Aug. 8.
Formed in 1933, the American Bar Association Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section is comprised of plaintiffs, defense, corporate and in-house counsel who provide knowledge and leadership on trial practice and critical issues of justice regarding tort and insurance law.
Witt, who works in Plunkett Cooney’s Bloomfield Hills office, represents insurance companies throughout the United States in a wide variety of complex insurance coverage disputes, including product liability, construction defects, environmental contamination, toxic torts, automotive and bad faith claims.
Witt also routinely counsels clients through coverage opinions arising out of claims for bodily injury and /or property damage, personal and advertising injury, rescission and fraud and misrepresentation.
Witt’s work experience includes casualty/liability defense for Fortune 100 clients, general and commercial litigation, real estate and commercial leasing.
Licensed to practice law in Michigan and Illinois, Witt is a member of the Insurance and Indemnity Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan, the Illinois State Bar Association and the American Bar Association, as well as the DRI - The Voice of the Defense Bar (Insurance Law Committee).
A graduate of DePaul University College of Law in 2002, Witt served as the case summaries editor for the DePaul/LCA Journal of Arts and Entertainment Law. She received her undergraduate degree from Michigan State University in 1999.
