Bartos appointed to technology academy’s business advisory council
February 22, 2008Suzanne P. Bartos, a shareholder of the law firm Plunkett Cooney, was recently appointed to the Business/Education Advisory Council (BEAC) of the Advanced Technology Academy (ATA) in Dearborn, Michigan.
“I am really excited about this opportunity to make a difference in the quality of education here in southeast Michigan,” said Bartos, who works in Plunkett Cooney’s Detroit office. “Our young people are faced with an uncertain future, so we need to equip them with all the tools they need to be successful in the years to come.”
ATA is a Michigan charter public school serving students in grades K-12 on its Dearborn campus. The academy is authorized by Lake Superior State University and the Michigan Department of Education.
As a member of the advisory council, Bartos, who focuses her practice in the areas of education law and employment liability, will work alongside other professionals, business executives, administrators and educators interested in supporting the ATA’s advanced studies program. BEAC members organize outside speakers to address students, coordinate student visits to businesses for practical learning experiences and undertake fund-raising efforts to sustain the academy’s programs among other duties.
Bartos served as president of the Michigan Council of School Attorneys and the Michigan Association of School Attorneys. She is a member of the Michigan Association of Public School Academies.
With over 20 years of experience representing public and private institutions in a wide range of employment and general litigation matters in state and federal courts, Bartos is one of Plunkett Cooney’s senior education law attorneys. She devotes much of her practice to counseling educational institutions, including public academies, K-12 school districts and community colleges on various legal issues.
Bartos received her undergraduate degree in 1980, as well as her Master of Arts in Industrial Relations in 1993 from Wayne State University. She earned her law degree from the Detroit College of Law in 1983.
