August 25, 2008

Charity A. Olson, a member of the Commercial Litigation Practice Group of Plunkett Cooney, was recently elected to her second term as a member of the Michigan Association of Collection Agencies’ (MACA) Board of Directors.

“This is a great opportunity,” said Olson, who works in the Bloomfield Hills office of Plunkett Cooney, one of the Midwest’s largest and oldest law firms.  “As a board member, I can continue learning, teaching best practices and advocating for the industry at the state level."

Established in 1938, MACA brings together third-party collections professionals with the goal of advancing the credit and collections industry. The association was founded to regulate practices, prescribe ethics and promote continued growth and professionalism among its membership.

As a member of the board, Olson will remain involved in informing and educating the organization’s membership regarding business, legal and regulatory issues and developments.

Olson concentrates her practice in the areas of commercial litigation, banking and creditors’ rights with particular emphasis on the defense of individual and class-action claims stemming from alleged violations of federal and state consumer protection statutes.

Olson received her undergraduate degree in political science, magna cum laude, from the University of Michigan. She received her law degree, magna cum laude, from Thomas M. Cooley Law School.

Olson serves as the Practice Group Leader for Plunkett Cooney’s Consumer Litigation Practice Group, which represents some of the country’s largest creditors, debt purchasers and collection agencies involved in collections and credit reporting litigation at both the state and federal levels.  These matters often involve claims stemming from defense of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Truth-in-Lending Act, Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act and related state statutes.

Established in 1913, Plunkett Cooney is a full-service law firm with 150 attorneys in nine Michigan cities, Columbus, Ohio and Indianapolis, Indiana. The firm has achieved the highest rating (AV) awarded by Martindale-Hubbell, a leading, international directory of law firms.
