Witt, Pohl join Plunkett Cooney’s insurance law practice group

Plunkett Cooney, one of the Midwest’s oldest and largest law firms, expanded the depth of its insurance practice with the recent additions of attorneys Amy L. Witt and Elaine M. Pohl.

Focusing her practice exclusively in the area of insurance coverage law, Witt represents insurance companies throughout the United States in a variety of complex coverage matters involving environmental issues, asbestos, construction defects and toxic torts. Witt’s experience also includes real estate law and commercial leasing.

A member of the Bloomfield Hills office, Witt received her law degree from DePaul University College of Law in Chicago. Admitted to practice in Michigan and Illinois, she is a member of the American and Chicago bar associations. In addition, Witt is a member of the board of directors of the James Madison College Alumni Association at Michigan State University.

A senior attorney in the firm’s Bloomfield Hills office, Elaine M. Pohl focuses her practice in the areas of insurance coverage, liquor licensing and general litigation matters. Her clients include insurance companies involved in complex policy coverage disputes with policyholders and other insurance providers.

In addition to her insurance coverage practice, Pohl has extensive experience representing hospitality industry clients with respect to liquor licensing issues. She is also an accomplished advocate in the area of administrative law.

Pohl received her law degree, cum laude, from Indiana University School of Law. She is a member of the American Bar Association, State Bar of Michigan - Alcohol Beverage Practice Section and Insurance and Indemnity Law Section (serving as Treasurer), Oakland County Bar Association, Defense Research Institute, Michigan Licensed Beverage Association and Women Lawyers Association of Michigan.

The members of Plunkett Cooney’s Insurance Law Practice Group represent national and international insurance carriers in coverage disputes, including consulting, litigation, and regulatory proceedings. Members of this practice group have served as national and regional trial counsel for insurance carriers in breast implant, environmental, asbestos, construction, and pharmaceutical coverage litigation.

Established in 1913, Plunkett Cooney maintains offices in nine Michigan cities and one each in Columbus, Ohio and Indianapolis, Indiana. The firm employs 320 people, including 150 attorneys, many of whom are nationally known experts in their field.
