Leslie Stein, a banking law attorney in private and corporate in-house practice for over 29 years, recently joined Plunkett Cooney, one of the Midwest’s oldest and largest law firms, as a partner in the firm’s Bloomfield Hills office.

“With her background as an in-house banking attorney, Leslie has exceptional skills and knowledge to service her clients,” said Douglas C. Bernstein, Plunkett Cooney’s Banking, Bankruptcy and Creditors’ Rights Practice Group Leader of Stein, who primarily focuses her practice in the areas of business bankruptcy, workouts and creditors’ rights. “She completely understands their needs, and that, along with her personal and professional skills, makes her an attorney we are fortunate to have as part of our banking practice group.”

Nominated as a Michigan Super Lawyer in bankruptcy/creditors' rights by Law & Politics Magazine since 2006, Stein represents national and community banks, tier two auto suppliers, mortgage lenders and secured and unsecured lenders in the commercial and real estate lending arenas. She also handles matters involving loan documentation, secured transactions and financing aspects of mergers and acquisitions.

Stein, who has earned an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the leading peer review service in the legal profession (AV is a registered certification mark of Reed Elsevier Properties, Inc., used in accordance with the Martindale-Hubbell certification procedures, standards and policies), received her law degree, summa cum laude, from Wayne State University in 1980. She received her undergraduate degree, with honors, from Oakland University in 1976.

A frequent lecturer and author on bankruptcy law, Stein is a member of the Michigan, American, Federal and Detroit Metropolitan bar associations. She is also a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute and the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan, for which she is a past Director-at-Large and Treasurer.

The members of Plunkett Cooney’s Banking, Bankruptcy & Creditors' Rights Practice Group have represented banks, savings and loan associations, mortgage companies, credit unions and finance companies for over 25 years. Members of the group have nearly 110 years of combined experience as in-house bank counsel prior to joining the firm.
