A senior attorney in Plunkett Cooney’s Bloomfield Hills office, James A. Bumbaugh practices in the areas of healthcare law, commercial litigation, employment law and corporate transactions. He is a member of the firm’s Healthcare Industry Group and Real Estate/Transactional Practice Group.

Mr. Bumbaugh currently serves as outside corporate counsel for various profit and nonprofit corporations.  He routinely provides counsel on UCC related matters, contracts and various other agreements, employment matters and a variety of complex litigation matters. His healthcare industry practice includes a number of services such as employment law, regulatory compliance, business and transactional matters.

Mr. Bumbaugh’s previous and current clients include Fortune 500 companies, technology and electronics manufacturers, Tier I and Tier II automotive suppliers, numerous financial institutions, and medical practices and facilities. He is licensed in both Michigan and Ohio.

  • Represented numerous physicians and entities in the acquisition of medical practices and/or assets while utilizing various valuation models and purchase plans

  • Represented an automotive parts manufacturer against a large financial institution in UCC warranty of title litigation
  • Represented an array of manufacturing companies in UCC related litigation and varied disputes under the purview of the UCC
  • Represented an automotive parts manufacturer in a $1.3 million federal court action against a carrier under the Carmack Amendment
  • Represented an electronics manufacturer in a $1.1 million federal court case against the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and a national general contractor
  • Represented a Motown musical group in federal court litigation to protect and enforce trademark rights
  • Represented a home security corporation in real estate litigation against a large financial institution involving a dispute over priority of interests
  • Represented a majority shareholder of a cemetery company in complex real estate litigation involving stock redemption agreements, promissory notes, security agreements, stock pledge agreements, escrow agreements and a mortgage with a land contract rider
