Megan P. McKnight is an attorney in Plunkett Cooney’s Banking, Bankruptcy and Creditors’ Rights and Commercial Litigation practice groups, who focuses her practice primarily in the area of business litigation with emphasis on banking and lender liability disputes.
A member of the firm’s Bloomfield Hills office, Ms. McKnight has extensive experience representing financial institutions and corporate clients in a range of disputes, including loan defaults and workouts, complex collection actions, business fraud and other misconduct, real estate disputes, and non-compete and unfair competition claims.
Ms. McKnight is admitted to practice in the state, federal and bankruptcy courts in Michigan as well as in the state and federal courts in Illinois. As part of her litigation practice, she is routinely consulted for her e-discovery expertise. Ms. McKnight is a member of the Oakland County, Illinois and Women’s bar associations and serves as a Barrister of the American Inns of Court – Oakland County Chapter.
Representative Client Work
- Represented financial institution in negligence action after company was accused of making error that resulted in the mistaken criminal prosecution of a customer
- Represented estate conservator in action to recover assets wrongfully taken from estate
- Represented business against former employee in action to enforce non-compete agreement and to prevent employee from defaming business on Internet
- Represented several banks in collection proceedings against business borrowers
- Represented automotive supplier in a fraud and breach of contract case arising out stock purchase agreement (including management of significant electronic discovery)
- Represented family in action against a collection agency after bank accounts were improperly garnished by debt collectors
- Represented regional investment bank in IPO Securities Litigation
- Represented securities firm and its chief executive in NYSE (now FINRA) enforcement proceedings
- Represented public funds investment advisor in arbitration proceedings in which public entity claimed over $50 million in damages
- Represented several businesses in actions against insurance companies that refused to properly indemnify companies for covered loses
- Pro Bono: Represented several undocumented immigrant children whose parents could not care for them in special immigrant juvenile proceedings
