A senior attorney in the firm’s Bloomfield Hills office, Rasul M. Raheem is a member of the Banking, Bankruptcy & Creditors Rights Practice Group. He focuses his practice in the areas of business transactions, regulatory law and banking law.

Mr. Raheem has nearly 30 years of experience as in-house counsel to Michigan National Bank and LaSalle Bank Corp, with the last nine years at Bank of America, N.A.. He provides legal counsel and advice to senior management regarding finance and lending relationships, credit issues, restructuring and recovery strategies, reputational risk, treasury services, bank policy and regulatory issues. He also has experience managing outside counsel, related litigation and legal spend with law firms across the country.

Mr. Raheem was recently appointed by the Mayor of the City of Detroit to a three-year term on the Detroit Land Bank Authority Board of Directors. He also serves as a member of the Michigan Roundtable for Diversity & Inclusion and as an adjunct professor at Western Michigan University Cooley Law School, where he teaches a course on banking and financial institutions law.

Mr. Raheem has a number of published appellate decisions to his credit, and he is a member of several professional organizations.

Representative Client Work

  • Represented a middle-market lending group’s $240 million commercial loan and real estate portfolio involving industry conglomerates, Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League and the construction of Comerica Park
  • Provided broad-based counseling and legal services for commercial lending-loan documentation, financial services and regulatory matters, credit advisories, workouts, letters of credit, consumer lending, international lending and litigation
  • Provides counsel to intergovernmental special purpose public authority on banking and regulatory issues for vacant, abandoned and foreclosed property owned by the city of Detroit
  • Served as counsel to commercial lending groups, including middle market, business banking, asset-based lending, syndicated lending and commercial real estate lending
  • Served as counsel, providing legal advice in the areas of contracts, treasury services, the Uniform Commercial Code Articles 3, 4, 5 and 9, general litigation claims, and provided strategies to avoid and mitigate risk to financial institutions
