Charles E. Dunn is a partner in the firm’s Business Law Practice Group, who focuses his practice in the areas of real estate, environmental law, regulatory and eminent domain matters involving private and public sector clients.
Mr. Dunn has significant experience in air, water, wetlands and soil erosion permitting and enforcement, hazardous substance land clean-up matters, Brownfield re-development, environmental real estate transactions, including due diligence and environmental site assessments, water and inland matters, and environmental litigation and agency enforcement defense.
Over the course of his legal career, Mr. Dunn has represented an array of Fortune 500 companies, including automotive suppliers and manufacturers, cement producers, chemical manufacturers and distributors, utilities and electricity generators, financial institutions, petroleum suppliers, metal coating and finishing companies, various municipal road and drain authorities and real estate developers.
Prior to his legal career, Mr. Dunn held several environmental related positions in the private sector and developed particular expertise with respect to the design and installation of pollution control systems. He also has the distinction of serving as a legal assistant for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and as a law clerk for the Michigan Department of Attorney General, Natural Resources Division.

- Defended numerous manufacturers in defense of governmental remediation cost recovery claims.
- Represented numerous financial institutions with respect to environmental risk evaluations for affected properties.
- Represented developers regarding issues related to procurement of wetland, soil erosion, and marina permits, including related administrative appeals and judicial actions.
- Counseled municipal agencies regarding Brownfield grants, loans and tax increment financing developmental tools.
- Counseled numerous corporations regarding environmental regulatory permitting and compliance issues related to wastewater discharges and air emissions.
- Enforcement and litigation counsel for large county agency related to soil and sedimentation control program.
- Counseled large manufacturing company in sale of environmentally impacted property.
