Susan A. Finnegan is a member of the firm’s Kalamazoo office and a member of Plunkett Cooney’s Title Insurance and Governmental Law practice groups.

Ms. Finnegan also has extensive experience as a commercial litigation attorney. She defended cases involving common law and statutory claims for post-termination commission payments, fraud and conversion, professional malpractice, employment law, mechanics lien and breach of contract. She has previously represented a professional athlete, the City of Chicago, a national trucking company, a general contractor and various other business owners.

Representative Client Work

  • Successfully defended a corporation in a four-day federal trial over post-termination commission payments. A favorable verdict was reached in the case, in which the plaintiff sought damages in excess of $1,000,000.
  • Represented businesses and individuals through TRO and preliminary injunction proceedings over the enforcement of non-competition agreements.
  • Defended business clients against claims brought under state and federal consumer protection statutes, including the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, the Equal Credit Opportunity Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act.   
  • Represented a shareholder in litigation and mediation pertaining to the sale and valuation of the client’s ownership interest in a privately held restaurant and real estate business.
  • Successfully defended a city and four of its attorneys against constitutional claims stemming from their defense of a previous lawsuit brought by a terminated city employee.
  • Obtained a favorable settlement on behalf of a general contractor in a multi-million dollar construction lien and breach-of-contract lawsuit involving competing claims by numerous parties over assets of the insolvent property owner.
  • Represented a professional athlete on appeal to the International Court of Arbitration for Sport and settlement with related U.S. and International agencies.
