Jeffrey C. Gerish is a partner in the firm’s Bloomfield Hills office who practices in the areas of appellate law, insurance coverage and commercial litigation.

Mr. Gerish is a member of Plunkett Cooney’s Appellate Law Practice Group, which is one of the only dedicated law firm appellate practice groups in the State of Michigan.  He has successfully represented parties in numerous published decisions issued by the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, the Michigan Supreme Court and the Michigan Court of Appeals. He is also a member of the firm’s Insurance Coverage Practice Group.

Mr. Gerish received both his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Michigan, and he is a member of several professional organizations.

Representative Client Work

  • Gage v Henkel (6th Cir) [obtained reversal of summary judgment in contract dispute; court held that disagreement over price precluded contract formation.]
  • Gillian v. Hi-Temp (Michigan Court of Appeals) [obtained reversal of denial of summary disposition; court held that trial court improperly denied summary disposition in asbestos litigation to dissolved corporation based on the presence of liability insurance.]
  • Westland v Seaboard (Michigan Court of Appeals) [obtained reversal of denial of summary disposition in favor of liability insurer based on absolute pollution exclusion.]
  • Hardy v. Oakland County, (Michigan Supreme Court, 2000) [Threshold requirement of demonstrating serious impairment applies when defendant is a governmental entity]
  • Ireland v. Tunis, (6th Cir) [Prosecuting attorney was entitled to absolute immunity from liability for seeking arrest warrant notwithstanding political motives allegedly underlying the prosecutor’s acts, and prosecutor's investigator was entitled to qualified immunity for his acts]
  • Hampton v. Waste Management of Michigan Inc., (Michigan Court of Appeal) [Premises owner cannot be liable for creating hazardous condition unless it did so by unreasonable act]
