Plunkett Cooney welcomes Summer Associate Class of 2022

05.26.2022

If you were to judge Plunkett Cooney’s 2022 summer associate class based solely on school mascots, the firm may be viewed as having one of the toughest sounding classes in the nation!

The firm recently welcomed “Warriors” Jamerika Ramsey and Marisa Thakady from Wayne State University Law School and “Spartan” Jake Hendricks from Michigan State University College of Law to participate in its 12-week summer associate program.

The summer associates will work with Plunkett Cooney partners and associates in the areas of governmental law, tort and litigation and commercial litigation. The program entails two six-week sessions during which the summer associates will receive hands-on experience with legal assignments and will enjoy various professional social events throughout the metropolitan Detroit area. The program will conclude on Aug. 12.

Hendricks is scheduled to receive his law degree from Michigan State University College of Law in 2023. He received his undergraduate degree from Central Michigan University in 2020. While there, Hendricks received the College of Business Administration Outstanding Student Award and was named Business Residential College Outstanding Student of the Year and Business Residential College Community Member of the Year.

Scheduled to receive her law degree in 2023, Ramsey is a Damon J. Keith Scholar, a mock trial junior member and the current president of her school’s Black Law Student Association. While in law school, Ramsey served as a judicial intern for Judge Linda V. Parker of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan and as an intern for Volusia County Courthouse Court Administration in Florida. She received her undergraduate degree, summa cum laude in 2020, from Bethune-Cookman University, which is in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Rounding out the Class of 2022 is Thakady who is set to receive her law degree in 2024. She received a full tuition academic merit scholarship to Wayne Law, and she is a member of the Women’s Law Caucus. A 2019 graduate from the University of Michigan, Thakady received university honors for all semesters and participated in the university’s study abroad program in Dublin, Ireland.
