11.03.2020

DBusiness magazine recently named three metro Detroit attorneys from Plunkett Cooney, one of the Midwest’s oldest and largest law firms, to its 2021 list of “Top Lawyers.”

Robert G. Kamenec and Mark S. Kopson of the firm’s Bloomfield Hills office and Stanley A. Prokop of the Detroit office received this year’s Top Lawyer honors. Kamenec was included on the list as one of the region’s leading appellate attorneys, and his partner Kopson was honored as a standout in the area of health care law. Prokop, who has been practicing since 1968, was name to the list for his expertise in the area of insurance coverage.

DBusiness is Detroit's premier business journal, providing daily news coverage about the business climate in southeast Michigan. Its annual Top Lawyers list, which was published in the November edition, was compiled based on a peer-review survey open to all metro Detroit lawyers. The publication polled 19,000 attorneys in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw and Livingston counties to nominate lawyers among 50 practice areas. There is no commercial relationship to the listings, no payment is required to be listed, and listings cannot be purchased.

A Co-leader of Plunkett Cooney’s Appellate Law Practice Group, Kamenec is recognized throughout the Midwest as a leading appellate advocate. He focuses his practice primarily in the areas of appellate law, insurance coverage and medical liability with a concentration on high-verdict and high-exposure matters. Kamenec is a fellow in the prestigious American Academy of Appellate Lawyers and is personally responsible for numerous published decisions in state and federal appellate courts.

Kopson represents a range of health facilities, health plans, professional practices, integrated delivery systems and managed care organizations in Michigan and throughout the United States. He has extensive experience and expertise in the areas of commercial and governmental managed care contracting, revenue cycle, regulation and dispute resolution, hospital sales, mergers and acquisitions, ASCs and much more. He is a fellow of the State Bar of Michigan Health Care Law Section and a member of the board of directors of the American Health Law Association.

Prokop, who has earned the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation, focuses his practice exclusively on insurance law litigation and coverage issues, including property damage cases, declaratory judgment actions, subrogation matters, fidelity claims and errors and omissions matters. He has the distinction of having represented some of the world’s largest insurance providers and having successfully resolved cutting-edge and often high-stakes coverage litigation.

Established in 1913, Plunkett Cooney is a leading provider of transactional and litigation services to clients in the private and public sectors. The firm employs approximately 150

attorneys in seven Michigan cities, Chicago, Illinois, Indianapolis, Indiana and Columbus, Ohio. Plunkett Cooney has achieved the highest rating (AV) awarded by Martindale-Hubbell, a leading, international directory of law firms.
