Topic Overview:

During Plunkett Cooney's webinar “A Brave New World — How Changes to Michigan’s Workers’ Compensation Act Impact Employers and Insurance Providers,” three of the firm's leading workers' compensation attorneys addressed the changes in the law that affect the employer and payment of benefits, including the definition of an employee, definition of injury and disability, termination of employment, subsequent employment and specific loss.

The presenters also discussed the effects of the changes on the day-to-day operation of the Agency, including the new redemption procedure, rehabilitation orders, issuance of subpoenas, the elimination of the
mediator and electronic filings.

Finally, the panel looked at alterations to the interest rate, control
of medical treatment and medical benefits while on appeal.

In addition to our Plunkett Cooney attorneys, special guest Magistrate David Grunewald of the Board of Magistrates of the Michigan Workers' Compensation Agency, Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs provided his perspective on the new amendments to the
Worker's Compensation Act.
