Detroit Regional Chamber Names Cooney 2014 Mackinac Policy Conference Chair

06.05.2013

The Detroit Regional Chamber on Friday announced Plunkett Cooney President and CEO Henry B. Cooney as chair of its 2014 Mackinac Policy Conference.

Cooney, who has led Plunkett Cooney, one of the Midwest’s oldest and largest law firms, since 1998, has been a longtime member of the Chamber’s board of directors. The appointment to lead one of the nation’s largest policy conferences is a challenge Cooney said he is ready to undertake.

“Certainly, this is a tremendous honor for me and Plunkett Cooney,” he said. “Each year, some of the top leaders from the region and country come together to discuss the crucial issues facing the City of Detroit, the state of Michigan and our nation.”

In a published statement, Detroit Regional Chamber President and CEO Sandy K. Baruah praised Cooney for his dedication to the Chamber and for his leadership as committed member of Detroit’s business community.

"Hank Cooney is one of the leading attorneys in Michigan, is president of a very well respected law firm, Plunkett Cooney, and has a long history of commitment to Detroit and the region," Baruah said. “I am honored that he will lend his perspective and leadership to the 2014 Mackinac Policy Conference.”

The 2013 Mackinac Policy Conference just concluded last week, drawing approximately 1,500 attendees. Following the announcement of Cooney as the new Conference Chair, the Chamber released the dates for the 2014 Mackinac Policy Conference, which will take place from Wednesday, May 28 through Friday, May 30.

In addition to his service as a member of the Detroit Regional Chamber, Cooney serves on several other nonprofit boards, including the Michigan Roundtable for Diversity & Inclusion, Life Directions, Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings and the American Heart Association - Southeast Michigan.

One of the Midwest’s oldest and largest law firms, Plunkett Cooney is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, a milestone few companies ever reach. The firm employs approximately 150 attorneys in nine Michigan cities, Columbus, Ohio and Indianapolis, Indiana.

Plunkett Cooney, which provides a range of transactional and litigation services, has achieved the highest rating (AV) awarded by Martindale-Hubbell, a leading, international directory of law firms. Fortune magazine has also named Plunkett Cooney among the top commercial firms in the United States.
