Plunkett Cooney adds more horsepower to motor vehicle practice
Plunkett Cooney, one of the Midwest’s oldest and largest law firms, recently added more horse power to its growing motor vehicle liability practice with the addition of attorney Scott Malott.
Malott is a member of the firm’s Transportation Law Practice group, which is focused on the defense of litigation involving first- and third-party auto and trucking liability claims. A member of Plunkett Cooney’s Bloomfield Hills office, Malott has particular expertise in investigating and defending questionable claims submitted to insurance providers, including those exhibiting one or more indicators of potential fraud, as identified by the National Insurance Crime Bureau.
“Scott is an exceptional attorney who really focuses on getting great results for his clients,” said Plunkett Cooney’s President & CEO Dennis Cowan. “He has developed a niche practice that his insurance clients rely on to manage questionable claims in motor vehicle and property cases.”
In addition, Malott employs an aggressive motion practice to resolve claims prior to trial. As panel counsel for several leading insurance providers, he has successfully defended numerous cases involving Personal Injury Protection (PIP) claims, including cases involving alleged catastrophic injuries. His practice also includes expertise in the areas of premises liability and property claims related to theft and damage.
A 2011 graduate of Western Michigan University Cooley Law School, Malott has received numerous academic honors. He earned his bachelor of business administration degree in 2004 from Western Michigan University’s Haworth College of Business.
Admitted to practice in Michigan’s state and federal courts, Malott is a member of the Oakland County Bar Association, the State Bar of Michigan and the American Inns of Court.
Plunkett Cooney’s motor vehicle liability practice includes the states of Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio and extends to the resolution of cross-border claims stemming from disputes in Canada. The firm’s attorneys serve as panel counsel to some of the largest insurance providers in the world, including in the areas of motor vehicle liability, fraudulent claims, no-fault law and trucking liability.
Established in 1913, Plunkett Cooney employs 140 attorneys in nine Michigan cities, Chicago, Illinois, Columbus, Ohio and Indianapolis, Indiana. The firm, which provides a range of transactional and litigation services, has achieved the highest rating (AV) awarded by Martindale-Hubbell, a leading, international directory of law firms.
