Bloomfield Hills
10.06.2008

Michigan Super Lawyers magazine recently named 25 attorneys from Plunkett Cooney, one of the Midwest’s oldest and largest full-service law firms, to its 2009 list of “Super Lawyers.”

The designation is based on statewide balloting by Michigan attorneys, research conducted by Law & Politics magazine and a peer review process that encompasses 55 different practice areas. Those named to the list represent only five percent of the state’s licensed practitioners.

Mary Massaron, Plunkett Cooney’s Appellate Law Practice Group Leader, received special recognition by the magazine for the third consecutive year when she was included among the top 100 attorneys statewide and the top 50 women lawyers. In addition to being a top appellate attorney, Massaron is also an accomplished author having co-edited two books on behalf of the American Bar Association addressing the concepts of governmental liability and eminent domain, respectively.

Also joining Massaron on the Super Lawyers list from the firm’s Appellate Practice Group are shareholders Ernest R. Bazzana, Robert G. Kamenec and Christine D. Oldani. Each is an accomplished appellate attorney with numerous published decisions to his/her credit.

In the area of civil litigation defense, Plunkett Cooney shareholders William D. Booth, Henry B. Cooney, who is the firm’s President & CEO, and H. William Reising were acknowledged for their expertise.

The firm’s Labor and Employment Law Practice Group was also acknowledged by Michigan Super Lawyers with the inclusion of shareholders Theresa Smith Lloyd and Stanley C. Moore, III. Insurance coverage specialists Charles W. Browning, Stanley A. Prokop and Mary Catherine Rentz were highlighted as Super Lawyers, as was environmental law specialist and shareholder Charles E. Dunn.

In the area of bankruptcy & creditor/debtor rights, Douglas C. Bernstein received Super Lawyer acknowledgment and the firm’s Medical Liability Practice Group was featured with the inclusion of shareholder D. Jerry Watters.

Also included on the Michigan Super Lawyers list were Plunkett Cooney shareholders Loretta M. Ames and Mark H. Verwys for their product liability expertise, Steven L. Barney in the area of professional liability, Jerome A. Galante who specializes in construction litigation, Lawrence R. Donaldson, an expert in Alternative Dispute Resolution, James C. Thomas, a well-known white-collar criminal defense attorney, Dennis J. Cowan, who is an expert in the area of zoning and land use, and James R. Geroux, an accomplished workers’ compensation attorney.

In the area of government/cities/municipalities, Michael S. Bogren and David K. Otis joined fellow Plunkett Cooney shareholders on the 2009 Michigan Super Lawyer list.

Established in 1913, Plunkett Cooney employs 150 attorneys in nine Michigan cities and one each in Columbus, Ohio and Indianapolis, Indiana. The firm has achieved the highest rating (AV) awarded by Martindale-Hubbell, a leading, international directory of law firms.
