Plunkett Cooney names healthcare specialist Kopson as its newest partner

Mark S. Kopson, a well-known attorney in the field of healthcare law, was recently named a partner of Plunkett Cooney, one of the Midwest’s oldest and largest full-service law firms.

A member of Plunkett Cooney’s Bloomfield Hills office and leader of the firm’s Healthcare Industry Group, Kopson represents numerous healthcare facilities, professional practices, physician-hospital organizations, integrated delivery systems and managed care entities in the state of Michigan and throughout the United States. He has extensive experience and expertise in the areas of managed care negotiation, contracting, dispute resolution and regulation, as well as HIPAA, Stark and Anti-kickback compliance and agency investigation response. His practice also includes the formation and counseling of joint ventures and the sale and purchase of commercial entities and real estate.

Kopson became Of Counsel to the firm in 2006. He is a member of the Health Care Law (Substantive Law Committee) and Business Law sections of the State Bar of Michigan; the Business Law, Health Law, and Law Practice Management sections of the American Bar Association; and the American Health Lawyers Association’s Payors, Plans and Managed Care (vice-chair Membership and past chair Managed Care Affinity Group), Physician Organizations, Fraud and Abuse, Antitrust, Health Information and Technology, and Hospitals and Health Systems practice groups.

A magna cum laude graduate of the University of Detroit School of Law in 1985, Kopson has received Martindale-Hubbell’s highest rating-AV. He received his undergraduate degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Detroit in 1981.
