Legal publication names firm among its ‘21st Century Innovators’

10.01.2009

For the second consecutive year, Plunkett Cooney, one of the Midwest’s oldest and largest law firms, was selected by Michigan Lawyers Weekly as a member of its “Century Club” based on the firm’s innovative recruitment and retention initiatives in the 21st century.

“This is a great honor and a tribute to the hard work and dedication of our management team,” said Henry B. Cooney, President & CEO of Plunkett Cooney. “We take pride in the fact that our attorneys and staff consider this a great place to work. That affinity toward the firm helps us all stay motivated to achieve our primary mission, which is to obtain the right results for our clients.”

Michigan Lawyer’s Weekly, the largest and most widely read publication serving the state’s legal industry, cited several reasons for including Plunkett Cooney on its top law firm list. Among the initiatives cited was the firm’s ongoing diversity initiative, attorney mentoring program, retention efforts and several other programs developed to improve overall workplace satisfaction.

In selecting its 21st Century Innovators, Michigan Lawyers Weekly judged each law firm based on the following areas: long-term retention programs for associate attorneys that encourage growth within the law firm; flex-time programs that recognize the importance of work/life balance without compromising momentum for the partnership track; technology-driven offices; and recruitment programs that encourage the best and brightest Michigan law students to stay and practice in the state.

Established in 1913, Plunkett Cooney employs more than 150 attorneys in nine Michigan cities, Columbus, Ohio and Indianapolis, Indiana. The firm, which provides a range of transactional and litigation defense services, has achieved the highest rating (AV) awarded by Martindale-Hubbell, a leading, international directory of law firms.

Other recent honors awarded to Plunkett Cooney include recognition by the Detroit Free Press as one of its “2009 Top Workplaces” and acknowledgement for the fifth consecutive year by the Michigan Business and Professional Association (APBA) naming the firm one of its “101 Best & Brightest Places to Work For.”
