Lanae L. Monera is a senior attorney in the firm's Grand Rapids office, who focuses her litigation practice in the areas of no-fault law and motor vehicle liability. She also has extensive experience handling matters involving premises, construction and dram shop liability.

Working on behalf of national insurance companies and their policyholders, Ms. Monera defends and litigates claims of automobile negligence, Michigan No-Fault benefits, premises liability, property damage, construction liability and insurance coverage. She has successfully represented numerous clients in circuit courts throughout the state of Michigan, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan and the Michigan Court of Appeals.

Representative client work

  • Defends automobile insurers against claims seeking Michigan No-Fault benefits, including medical expenses, attendant care, replacement services and wage loss benefits
  • Defends automobile negligence claims and has obtained dismissals via dispositive motions on the basis of issues such as failure to sustain a threshold injury and the plaintiff being more than 50 percent at fault for the accident
  • Defends Michigan Assigned Claims Plan insurers against claims for no-fault benefits, including claims brought by healthcare providers, and has obtained dismissals via dispositive motions on the basis of issues such as constructive ownership and unlawful taking; also defends against claims for penalties under the Michigan No-Fault Act
  • Prosecutes claims on behalf of automobile insurers, including MACP insurers, against other automobile insurers and has obtained reimbursement on the basis of the Michigan No-Fault Act's priority rules by means of dispositive motions and trials, which involve issues such as rescission of no-fault policies, conversion of out-of-state policies, domicile and residency
  • Defends retailers and property owners against premises liability claims and has obtained dismissals via dispositive motions on the basis of issues such as the open and obvious doctrine and no actual or constructive notice
  • Defends claims of construction liability and dram shop liability
