Plunkett Cooney partner Barlaskar named ‘Up & Coming Lawyer’

Plunkett Cooney partner, Abe Barlaskar, was recently named to the 2020 Class of “Up & Coming Lawyers” by Michigan Lawyers Weekly (MLW), an industry publication serving the state’s legal community.

Barlaskar, who is a member of Plunkett Cooney’s Torts & Litigation and Transportation Law practice groups, will be honored, along with 24 other Michigan attorneys, during a virtual event on Dec. 8 and in a special print feature published in the Dec. 14 issue of MLW.

The Up & Coming Lawyers program is dedicated to saluting lawyers throughout Michigan who have established a name for themselves by displaying the ambition, drive and accomplishments that set them apart among their peers in their first 10 years in practice.

Barlaskar concentrates his litigation practice on the defense of insurers and personal line carriers, rental car companies, trucking companies, corporations and municipalities in negligence and general liability matters, No-Fault auto liability matters, coverage disputes and extra-contractual claims. He also represents retail and hospitality industry clients in commercial disputes, criminal matters and litigation involving premises liability, foodborne illness cases and bedbug infestations.

Designated by Michigan Super Lawyers as a Rising Star in personal injury general defense since 2015, Barlaskar is licensed to practice law in state and federal courts in Michigan. He is active with the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance (CLM), where he is a member of CLM's Insurance Fraud Committee and serves as the Co-Chair of the committee’s Adjusters Training Courses. Barlaskar is also a member of State Bar of Michigan, the Michigan Adjusters Association, the American Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association and DRI – The Voice of the Defense Bar.

Barlaskar received his law degree, cum laude, from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School in 2011 and his undergraduate degree with university honors, from the University of Michigan in 2005.
