Siewert earns coveted fire and explosion investigator certification

10.24.2022

Plunkett Cooney attorney Nicholas W. Siewert was recently certified as a Fire and Explosion Investigator by the National Association of Fire Investigators (NAFI).

NAFI is one of the leading nonprofit organizations for fire and explosion investigator certifications, and its Certified Fire & Explosion Investigator (CFEI) program also serves as an international registry of qualified investigators. Obtaining CFEI certification is a two-part process that includes a credentials review and successful completion of the certification exam.

The oldest and most widely held fire investigation certification, CFEI is the only one based solely on the scientific principles of the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) and its NFPA 921 standard, which sets the bar for scientific-based investigation and analysis of fire and explosion incidents, including origin, cause, responsibility and prevention.

Siewert is a member of the Bloomfield Hills office of Plunkett Cooney, one of the Midwest’s oldest and most accomplished full-service law firms. He focuses his practice on insurance-related work involving Michigan No-Fault law and motor vehicle litigation, commercial and residential property loss claims, as well as on coverage disputes, entitlement issues and catastrophic personal injury claims. He also directly represents ride-sharing companies, and he serves as defense panel counsel for the policyholders of some of the nation's largest insurance providers.

In addition to his CFEI certification, Siewert is certified by the International Association of Arson Investigators as a fire investigation technician. He has particular expertise in handling claims involving fire and water damage, including arson and staged water losses. He has also handled assignments pertaining to business law, contract law and commercial litigation.

Siewert received his law degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 2014 and his undergraduate degree from Wayne State University in 2008.

Established in 1913, Plunkett Cooney is a leading provider of business and litigation services to clients in the private and public sectors. The firm employs approximately 140 attorneys in seven Michigan cities, Chicago, Illinois, Columbus, Ohio and Indianapolis, Indiana.

Plunkett Cooney has achieved the highest rating (AV) awarded by Martindale-Hubbell, a  leading, international directory of law firms. The firm has also been named a 2022 “Best Law Firm” nationally in 11 practice areas as determined by U.S. News – Best Lawyers®.
