Christopher J. Scott is a partner in the firm's Flint office who focuses his practice in all areas of law concerning personal injury, property damage or commercial liability, including premises liability, construction liability, trespass/tree removal liability, civil rights, trucking liability, trusts and estates, probate litigation and litigation involving motor vehicle no-fault and negligence claims.
Mr. Scott's municipal liability experience includes police pursuits, excessive force, civil rights, whistleblower claims, zoning, premises liability, wrongful termination/retaliation claims and personal injury.
Mr. Scott represents a variety of different clients in many areas of the law. He has experience handling professional liability matters, trucking liability issues, first- and third-party automobile cases, premises liability matters, construction law matters, insurance coverage issues, commercial disputes, probate disputes and product liability cases.
Representative Client Work
- Obtained defense verdicts in federal court jury trials regarding excessive force, deliberate interference to medical needs and lack of training claims
- Obtained defense verdict in no fault fraud case involving a plaintiff's demand of $14.25 million
- Obtained summary disposition for large tree service company regarding trespass and negligence claims
- Obtained favorable settlement for a lender (loan of $3 million) after three days of trial in U.S. Bankruptcy Court
- Obtained summary disposition in several third party automobile negligence matters throughout the state of Michigan
- Obtained no cause of action following a nine-day jury trial involving a patient's death in a paramedic malpractice case
- Served as lead counsel in a complex fraud insurance coverage dispute in federal district court
- Successfully defended general and sub- contractors in several construction site cases
- Obtained summary disposition in several product liability cases involving significant injury and exposure
- Obtained summary disposition on several occasions in favor of insurance companies where the plaintiff fraudulently applied for insurance
- Obtained dismissal in favor of subcontractor in a construction defect property damage case with alleged damages over $12.5 million
- Successfully defended insurance company in first party no-fault priority dispute. Appellate court reversed and client was reimbursed over $200,000
- Successfully reversed trial court ruling in favor of insurance company in an uninsured motorist claim where all claims against the client were dismissed
- Won summary judgment on Article 9 UCC matter that resulted in judgment in favor of commercial client in an amount over $874,000
- Obtained summary judgment on behalf of several police officers in excessive force, assault and battery, improper search and seizure and false arrest cases
- Obtained summary judgment disposition in numerous civil rights cases involving client police officers and municipalities
