Presented by
Plunkett Cooney's Labor & Employment Law Practice Group

TOPIC OVERVIEW:

Plunkett Cooney’s Labor & Employment Law Practice Group invited business executives, HR professionals, employers and claims professionals with EPLI coverage providers to attend this complimentary half-day seminar featuring videos of four thought-provoking scenarios involving common issues that arise in the workplace.

In Plunkett Cooney’s seminar, titled: "A Day in the Life of an HR Professional," attendees followed a typical day for "Becky," the Human Resources Manager for Farside Communications, as she tackles problems involving discrimination, wage and hour laws, concerted employee activities, disability and discrimination claims, the Family and Medical Leave Act, hostile work environment, social media, and an inappropriate new hire interview.

The firm’s labor and employment law attorneys discussed the many issues involved in each scene and will answer questions from seminar participants. The discussions focused on HR best practices, related state and federal law, as well as related regulatory issues.

The program concluded with a legal update, focused on recent state and federal labor and employment case law.

HR VIDEO OVERVIEW

Interview Gone Wrong – The disinterest of an arrogant operations executive in preparing to interview a management candidate triggers potential problems for human resources.

She Said, She Said – Accusations fly when two female executives cross paths on their rise to the top. Claims of poor performance, inappropriate fraternization, personal vendettas and harassment via not-so-subtle Facebook posts land, of course, in the office of the company’s human resources manager who has to sort it all out.

Packing Heat? – When a security guard suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder returns from leave, an intense encounter arises with a vendor that requires intervention by the company’s HR manager who must confront the guard amid allegations he is carrying a concealed firearm.

Social Media Nightmare – A concerned employee stops by the HR department to discuss harassing behavior that a disgruntled employee has exhibited toward employees who will not join his private Facebook page, and in the process informs HR that the page shows comments from various employees detailing wage and hour law violations committed by the company.
