Plunkett Cooney, one of the Midwest’s oldest and largest law firms, was recently named by Fortune magazine and LexisNexis Martindale-Hubbell as one of the top law firms in the United States.

In its Dec. 26 issue, Fortune identified the top law firms in the nation based on ratings provided by LexisNexis Martindale-Hubbell^®, a leading peer-rating service within the legal industry. Plunkett Cooney is one of the few law firms nationally with at least 10 percent of its attorneys having achieved Martindale-Hubbell’s premier lawyer rating – AV. Of the 162 attorneys employed by the firm, 71, or 44 percent, are AV rated.

This is the first time in Martindale-Hubbell’s 140-year history that it has issued a law firm ranking. The 2012 Top Ranked Law Firms™ list was featured in the Fortune Investor’s Guide, which was included in the current issue. In addition to appearing in Fortune, the top ranked law firms list will appear on CNNMoney.com.

According to Martindale-Hubbell, being named a Top Ranked Law Firm is a reflection of  Plunkett Cooney’s combined expertise, experience, integrity and overall professional excellence.

Over 250,000 law firms in the LexisNexis Martindale-Hubbell’s registry were reviewed and ranked in preparation for the 2012 Fortune Investors’ Guide supplement. Martindale-Hubbell’s Peer Review Ratings reflect a combination of achieving a very high numerical rating in general ethical standards rating, as well as legal ability (including legal knowledge, analytical capabilities, judgment, communication ability and legal experience).

Established in 1913, Plunkett Cooney employs over 160 attorneys in nine Michigan cities and one each in Columbus, Ohio and Indianapolis, Indiana. The firm, which provides a range of transactional and litigation services, has also achieved the highest rating (AV) awarded by LexisNexis Martindale-Hubbell.
