Murray appointed board member of Mackinac Island Community Foundation

Bloomfield Hills, MI — September 9, 2015 — James J. Murray, the managing partner James Murray Board of Directors of the Mackinac Island Community Foundationof the Petoskey office of Plunkett Cooney, one of the Midwest’s oldest and largest law firms, was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of the Mackinac Island Community Foundation.

“I’m looking forward to the opportunity to work with board members and other colleagues to continue the success of the foundation,” said Murray.  “It’s an honor to help the community conserve and preserve historical properties and traditions, as well as to aid Island-based institutions to position for the future.” 

The Mackinac Island Community Foundation serves the general well-being of Mackinac Island residents and visitors. Its purpose is to raise permanent endowment and special-purpose funds, manage them and distribute the earnings for charitable purposes.

As a member of the Mackinac Island Community Foundation, Murray will work with his colleagues to advance the organization’s goals, which include assisting in raising and managing endowment assets and determining how to spend funds to best benefit Mackinac Island's people and natural resources.

Since 1998, Murray has been a partner with Plunkett Cooney, and he currently serves as Petoskey and Boyne City Attorney. His northern Michigan practice includes extensive experience in the areas of municipal law, business law, real estate, banking, and estate planning.

Murray is a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Michigan, and he is a past President of the Emmet-Charlevoix Bar Association. Additionally, he serves as a member of the Grievance Panel for the State Bar of Michigan. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Michigan Association of Municipal Attorneys (MAMA) and to the Board of the Michigan Municipal League Legal Defense Fund.

Murray received his law degree, magna cum laude, and undergraduate degree from Michigan State University in 1987 and 1982, respectively.
