PDFLegal publication names firm among its ‘21st Century Innovators’
Plunkett Cooney, one of the Midwest’s oldest and largest law firms, was recently selected as a member of the “Century Club” by Michigan Lawyers Weekly for the firm’s innovative recruitment and retention initiatives in the 21st century.
“This is a tremendous honor for the firm and a testament to our ongoing efforts to attract and retain highly qualified attorneys and staff to serve our clients,” said Henry B. Cooney, President & CEO of Plunkett Cooney. “The firm’s management team understands our highly competitive and challenging marketplace, and we work daily to make our firm the kind of place where people want to spend their careers.”
Michigan Lawyer’s Weekly, the largest and most widely read publication serving the state’s legal industry, and 21st Century Innovators co-sponsor, the Women Lawyers Association (WLA) of Michigan, cited several reasons for including Plunkett Cooney on its top law firm list. Among the initiatives cited was the firm’s ongoing diversity initiative, attorney mentoring program, “great place to work” effort and several other programs developed to improve workplace satisfaction and employee retention.
In selecting its 21st Century Innovators, Michigan Lawyers Weekly and the WLA judged each law firm based on the following areas: long-term retention programs for associate attorneys that encourage growth within the law firm; flex-time programs that recognize the importance of work/life balance without compromising momentum for the partnership track; technology-driven offices; and recruitment programs that encourage the best and brightest Michigan law students to stay and practice in the state.
Established in 1913, Plunkett Cooney employs more than 150 attorneys in nine Michigan cities, Columbus, Ohio and Indianapolis, Indiana. The firm has achieved the highest rating (AV) awarded by Martindale-Hubbell, a leading, international directory of law firms.
Other recent honors awarded to Plunkett Cooney include recognition as one of a “2008 Top Workplaces” by the Detroit Free Press and acknowledgement for its third consecutive year by the Michigan Business and Professional Association (APBA) as one of its “101 Best & Brightest Places to Work For.”
