Legal publication names Cornwell to its list of 2023 Unsung Heroes

Plunkett Cooney’s longtime Director of Marketing and Business Development, John E. Cornwell, was recently named to the Class of 2023 “Unsung Heroes” by Michigan Lawyers Weekly (MiLW), an industry publication serving the state’s legal community.

Cornwell, along with 25 other law firm employees, was selected for consistently going above and beyond the call of duty, often behind the scenes. This honor is reserved for the state’s most talented and dedicated support professionals, including legal secretaries, paralegals, human resource professionals, legal marketers, information and technology professionals, financial staff members and office managers.

Profiles of the 2023 Unsung Hero honorees will appear in a special digital section of MiLW this month. In addition, they will be featured on the publication’s website and in its subscriber-based email, the Daily Alert.

Cornwell has been a member of Plunkett Cooney for over 26 years. A 1990 graduate of Wayne State University, he began his career as a reporter for The Citizen Newspaper in Hamtramck, Michigan. He went on to serve nearly five years as the city’s deputy mayor. In 1997, he began his over two-and-a-half-decade career with Plunkett Cooney, serving first as the firm’s communications specialist and eventually being promoted to marketing and business development director.

Established in 1913, Plunkett Cooney is a leading provider of business and litigation services to clients in the private and public sectors. The firm employs approximately 130 attorneys in seven Michigan cities, Chicago, Illinois, Indianapolis, Indiana and Columbus, Ohio. Plunkett Cooney recently received Mansfield Rule Certification for midsize law firms, which recognizes leaders in diversity, equity and inclusion within the legal industry.
