Senior attorney Matthew R. Planey recently joined Plunkett Cooney, one of the Midwest’s oldest and most accomplished law firms, as a member of its Torts & Litigation Practice Group.  

For over two decades, Planey has concentrated his practice in the areas of transportation law, general liability and insurance coverage, as well as related litigation. A member of the firm’s Columbus, Ohio office, he has represented clients across the Midwest in matters involving first- and third-party motor vehicle claims, personal injury disputes, product liability and construction litigation.

Planey’s expertise also includes litigating insurance coverage disputes, providing coverage opinions for claims involving extra-contractual/bad faith and punitive damages, and investigating fraudulent arson and theft claims. He serves as outside panel counsel for some of the world’s leading insurance providers.

Planey is a member of the Ohio State and Columbus bar associations, the Ohio Association of Civil Trial Attorneys, the National Society of Professional Insurance Investigators and the DRI. He received his law degree, cum laude, from the University of Toledo School of Law in 1996 and his undergraduate degree, summa cum laude, from Youngstown State University in 1993.
