Bio

Abraham (Abe) J. Newhouse is a member of the firm’s Transportation Law and Torts & Litigation practice groups. He focuses his practice in the areas of motor vehicle negligence and No-Fault Law, subrogation and  premises liability.

Mr. Newhouse advises his clients on all aspects of pre-suit claims, including strategic planning for anticipated litigation and providing opinions regarding insurance coverage and priority to minimize exposure. He routinely defends insured motorists, rental car companies and corporations in first- and third-party motor vehicle negligence matters, insurance fraud claims and coverage disputes.

Mr. Newhouse has extensive experience resolving insurance defense litigation and coverage claims involving Michigan No-Fault personal injury protection benefits, automobile injuries, wrongful death, catastrophic injuries, fraud/rescission, uninsured/underinsured motorist benefits and multimillion-dollar claims. He also has extensive experience resolving claims assigned by the Michigan Assigned Claims Plan, the state's insurer of last resort.

Representative Client Work

  • Prevailed on a Michigan No-Fault Act PIP claim that addressed the applicability of the Act’s No-Fault fee schedule to pharmaceutical claims. The Washtenaw Circuit Court ruled that these claims are subject to MCL 500.3157, including the applicable statutory reimbursement limitations, and confirmed they are subject to the applicable Medicare-based limitation where a Medicare rate is available or the statutory 2019 charge-based limitation where one is not.
  • Obtained a motion for summary disposition in the Wayne County Circuit Court in a claim involving a five-figure no-fault wage loss. The claim was dismissed in its entirety, saving the client thousands of dollars in potential exposure.
