Bio

Drew L. Block is a partner in the firm's Bloomfield Hills office who focuses his practice primarily in the area of insurance coverage.

Mr. Block has extensive experience handling bad faith claims, intellectual property disputes, first-party property loss claims, construction accident matters and sexual abuse and molestation claims throughout the Midwest. His litigation practice also includes experience handling commercial and contract disputes, premises and product liability claims and medical malpractice claims.

In addition to his admission to state and federal courts in Michigan and Illinois, Mr. Block is admitted to practice in Ohio. He is a member of the state bars of Michigan, Ohio and Illinois as well as the DRI and the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel.

Representative Client Work

  • Represented an insurance carrier and a third-party administrator in a Michigan insurance coverage dispute involving underlying discrimination claims against a school, resulting in summary judgment in favor of the carrier on both defense and indemnity

  • Represented an insurance carrier in bad faith and first-party insurance coverage actions in Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan and Ohio involving damage to insureds’ property caused by hail, wind and fire, including both residential and commercial properties

  • Represented an insurance carrier in a coverage action involving complex environmental claims involving PFAS contamination

  • Represented an insurance carrier in a Michigan insurance coverage dispute regarding coverage for sexual abuse of hundreds of women who were allegedly abused under the guise of medical treatment

  • Represented an insurance carrier in a Michigan insurance coverage dispute regarding coverage for the sale of unregistered securities and successfully obtained summary judgment in favor of the insured on the duty to defend and indemnity

  • Represented an insurance carrier in a Michigan insurance coverage dispute regarding coverage for an insured’s voluntary remediation of property damage without suit having been filed, resulting in summary judgment in favor of the carrier on both defense and indemnity

  • Represented an insurance carrier in a Michigan insurance coverage dispute regarding coverage for an insured’s settlement of a claim involving defective auto parts prior to suit being filed and without the consent of the carrier, resulting in summary judgment in favor of the carrier that was later affirmed by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit

  • Represented an insurance carrier in a Wisconsin coverage action involving underlying claims of copyright and trade dress infringement related to use of home designs, resulting in summary judgment in favor of the carrier on both defense and indemnity

  • Represented an insurance carrier in trucking cargo legal liability claims in Michigan and Ohio involving alleged damage to cargo by third parties

  • Represented an insurance carrier in numerous affirmative declaratory judgment actions in Illinois involving underlying construction accident and construction defect claims, including affirmatively seeking additional insured coverage for insureds

  • Represented an insurance carrier in an Indiana coverage dispute arising from underlying trade secret appropriate claim

  • Represented an insurance carrier in a maritime liability and insurance coverage action involving damage to a dredge vessel, resulting in summary judgment on the duty to defend in favor of the carrier

  • Represented insurance carriers in bad faith and first-party insurance coverage actions arising from damage to insureds’ property, including damages caused by water intrusion, mold infestation, roof collapse and cold

  • Represented an insurance carrier and the insured mechanical contractor in an insurance coverage/subrogation action where a worker sustained injuries while working on a construction site, resulting in summary judgment in favor of both the carrier and the insured regarding defense and indemnity

  • Represented an insurance carrier in a coverage dispute arising from a catastrophic auto accident, resulting in summary judgment in favor of the carrier on the duty to defend

  • Represented an insurance carrier in a copyright and trademark infringement coverage action and successfully obtained summary judgment in favor of the insurer on the duty to defend and indemnify

  • Represented an insurance carrier in a coverage dispute involving multiple allegations of sexual misconduct against employees of an insured school

  • Represented an ironworking contractor in a personal injury action that involved injuries to multiple ironworkers on a major construction site
