10.07.2011

Plunkett Cooney partner Michael S. Bogren was selected to serve as co-chair of the Newsletter and Public Relations Committee for the newly created Civil Rights Section of the Federal Bar Association (FBA).

“I’m honored that my colleagues selected me as co-chair for this committee,” said Bogren, who manages the Kalamazoo office of Plunkett Cooney, one of the Midwest’s oldest and largest law firms. “I’m looking forward to the opportunity to establish the standards and guidelines.”

The new FBA Civil Rights Section is intended to create a working group of attorneys and judges across the United States who will further the professional development of civil rights practitioners and work to develop a more open and fair judicial system.

Bogren co-chairs the Newsletter and Public Relations Committee with his colleague Larry J. Wulkan from the Arizona-based law firm of Sinson Morrison Hecker LLP. It is one of seven committees of the new FBA section.

The FBA consists of more than 15,000 federal lawyers, including 1,200 federal judges, who work together to promote the sound administration of justice and integrity, quality and independence of the judiciary.

Bogren serves as Secretary/Treasurer of Plunkett Cooney’s Board of Directors, a position he has held since 2003. He also serves as leader of the firm’s Regional Office Department and Governmental Law Practice Group. He focuses his practice in the areas of municipal law, civil rights and labor and employment law.

A 1982 cum laude graduate of University of Detroit School of Law, Bogren has extensive experience representing municipalities in both state and federal court claims involving police liability, due process, first amendment issues, Open Meetings Act, Freedom of Information Act, zoning, civil rights and employment law.

Bogren is active in a number of professional organizations, including the Kalamazoo County Bar Association, State Bar of Michigan (Public Corporations and Real Property sections), American Bar Association, International Municipal Lawyers Association and Association of Governmental Risk Pools.

Established in 1913, Plunkett Cooney employs more than 160 attorneys in nine Michigan cities, Columbus, Ohio and Indianapolis, Indiana. The firm, which provides a range of transactional and litigation services, has achieved the highest rating (AV) awarded by Martindale-Hubbell, a leading, international directory of law firms.
