Attorney Brian B. Gillis recently joined the Torts & Litigation Practice Group of Plunkett Cooney, one of the Midwest’s oldest and most accomplished law firms.

Focusing his practice on general litigation defense, Gillis represents a range of clients, including the policyholders of some of the world’s leading insurance companies, in claims involving ski area liability and risk, product liability, premises liability, automobile negligence defense, property disputes and commercial litigation.

A member of the firm’s Petoskey office, Gillis also has extensive experience in labor and employment law. He has represented management in employment litigation, including single-plaintiff claims involving wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment and retaliation, as well as wage-and-hour class actions on behalf of major health care industry clients. He has also counseled employers on a range of employment matters, including employee handbook development, workplace policy compliance and internal audits. Additionally, Gillis provided pro bono immigration legal services to asylum seekers throughout the application process.

Gillis is a member of the state bars of Michigan and California. He received his law degree, summa cum laude, from Golden Gate University School of Law where he graduated class valedictorian in 2023. While there, he earned several Witkin Awards for Excellence and CALI Excellence for the Future awards and served as executive articles editor of the Law Review. After receiving his undergraduate degree from Pomona College in 2010, Gillis pursued a career for nearly a decade in marketing communications and digital marketing before starting law school.
