Construction Lien Law

The Michigan Construction Lien Act, MCL §570.1101 et seq., provides a statutorily-created form of security against real estate in favor of contractors, subcontractors, material suppliers, laborers and design professionals who have improved the real estate, but have not been paid. 

Construction liens are perhaps the only way a contractor and/or design professional can secure payment from a project owner. Despite the importance of these legal instruments, recording and perfecting construction liens can be a difficult process.
